Open Office Save-As-DAISY Plugin Installation


Not only is the Save-As Daisy add-in available at no charge, but so is Open Office. Open Office is another great way to create documents and customize them the way you want them to look. After downloading the Save-As Daisy add-in for Open Office, you can easily create DAISY books of your content. Just follow the step-by-step instructions below and you will be on your way to authoring free content.

Installing the Save-As-DAISY Plugin

  1. Download the Save-As-DAISY Plugin package from the Open Office Save-As-DAISY Plugin download page.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file ("odt2daisy-addon-2.1.0-windows_x86.zip") by right-clicking and selecting "Extract All".
  3. Start Open Office Writer and select "Extension Manager" from the "Tools" menu.
  4. In the Extension Manager, click the "Add..." button.
  5. Using the file selector window, navigate to the folder created by unzipping the Save-As-DAISY plugin package and select the file "Odt2DaisyAddOn-2.1.0-windows_x86.oxt"
  6. Upon clicking "Open", you will be prompted with a dialog. Select the option that best fits your needs ("Only for me" is the default selection).
  7. After a successful installation, the item "Odt2DaisyAddOn-2.1.0-windows_x86.oxt" will appear in the Extension Manager list.
  8. Restart Open Office by closing all open Open Office applications and re-opening them.
  9. Delete the zip file ("odt2daisy-addon-2.1.0-windows_x86.zip") and the extracted folder ("Odt2DTBookAddOn_1.2.2").
